Exercicis de quantifiers — Anglès 2n ESO
Per dir quantitats en anglès has de saber primer si un nom es pot comptar o no. Aquests exercicis et fan completar frases amb some o any segons si són afirmatives, negatives o preguntes, triar entre much i many segons el nom i fer servir a few i a little. També hi ha casos especials, com oferir alguna cosa amb some en una pregunta («Would you like some coffee?»). Hi ha frases per corregir amb errors molt freqüents en alumnes catalanoparlants: posar en plural noms incomptables (informations, breads) i fer servir many amb un nom que no es compta, com money. Per a això cal much: «How much money?».
Nivell bàsic
Exercici 1
Completa amb some o any: 'There are ______ oranges in the fridge.'
Mostra la solució
'There are some oranges in the fridge.'
És afirmativa → some.
Exercici 2
Completa amb some o any: 'Have you got ______ brothers or sisters?'

És una pregunta normal → any.
Exercici 3
Completa amb much o many: 'I don't drink ______ coffee.'

'coffee' és incomptable i la frase és negativa → much.

An davant de vocal amb un nom comptable en singular; some amb un nom incomptable (bread) o un plural (bananas).

People és plural, per tant: there are.

Exercici 17
Explica la diferència de significat entre 'I have a few friends in Vic' i 'I have few friends in Vic'.

A few friends = alguns amics (idea positiva: n'hi ha uns quants).
Few friends = pocs amics, gairebé cap (idea negativa: no en té prou).
Passa el mateix amb a little (una mica) i little (molt poc).
Exercici 18
Escriu una pregunta amb How much o How many per a cada informació: a) 'There are twelve students in my group.' b) 'I spend about 20 euros a week.'

Students és comptable (how many); money és incomptable (how much).
Exercici 19
Corregeix els dos errors: 'I don't have many time to do my homework and there are much exercises.'

Time és incomptable en aquest sentit: much. Exercises és comptable en plural: many.
Exercici 20
Reescriu amb no, sense canviar el sentit: 'There isn't any bread.'

No ja porta la negació: per això el verb queda en afirmatiu (is no) i no es pot dir *There isn't no bread.

News, information i advice són incomptables en anglès: no tenen plural, no porten a/an, el verb va en singular i es fa servir much o a lot of (no many).

Completa amb a glass of, a slice of, a piece of o a carton of: a) 'I'd like ___ water.' b) 'She ate ___ cake.' c) 'He gave me ___ advice.' d) 'We need ___ milk.'

Els noms incomptables es poden quantificar amb una unitat o un recipient + of.

A les afirmatives es prefereix a lot of; much i many s'usen sobretot en negatives i preguntes.
Exercici 26
Escriu 5 frases descrivint el contingut d'una nevera amb milk, eggs, apples, cheese i juice. Fes servir some, any, a lot of, a little i a few.

Es valora la concordança: a little amb incomptables (milk, cheese), a few amb comptables en plural (eggs), any a negatives i preguntes.

Completa amb too, too much, too many o enough: a) 'The soup is ___ salty; I can't eat it.' b) 'There are ___ cars in the street.' c) 'I haven't got ___ money to buy it.' d) 'He eats ___ sweets.'

Preguntes freqüents
Quan es fa servir much i quan many?
Many amb noms comptables en plural (many books) i much amb incomptables (much water, much money). En frases afirmatives és més natural a lot of.
Per què es diu «Would you like some coffee?» amb some?
Perquè és un oferiment o una petició, i en aquests casos s'espera un sí. Some també es fa servir en preguntes d'aquest tipus.
